Science and Practice Committee
The Science and Practice Committee is established to promote scientific integrity, consistency, and best practices across all disciplines of forensic science. Its primary goal is to ensure that forensic methods are grounded in validated scientific principles and are applied consistently and ethically in investigative and judicial contexts. The committee serves as a central body for evaluating the scientific validity of forensic techniques, providing guidance on professional standards, and advising on policy and regulatory frameworks.
The GAIAI’s committee will encompass a broad range of forensic science disciplines, including but not limited to:

Tasks and Responsibilities
The Science and Practice Committee is composed of representatives from each of the disciplines represented within the division. These individuals serve as subject matter representatives within the GAIAI too:
- Evaluate and promote the use of scientifically validated methods and emerging technologies across forensic disciplines to the GAIAI membership.
- Review and recommend best practice guidelines for specific and/or questioned forensic disciplines.
- Recommend training and certification standards for forensic practitioners.
- Provide guidance on ethical considerations, including impartiality, bias mitigation, and transparency in forensic practices.
- Offer expert advice on complex or high-profile forensic issues or cases when requested.
- Encourage participation in the annual educational conference from experts in their disciplines.
- Holding at least one meeting at the Annual Educational Conference.
- Submitting to the Web Master any information about their discipline to be maintained on the GAIAI Website.
- Submit articles to the Editor of the GAIAI for inclusion in the quarterly newsletter.
The Science and Practice Committee is a vital body dedicated to enhancing the credibility, reliability, and impact of forensic science. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based oversight, it will contribute to the continual improvement and integrity of forensic science in both investigative and legal settings.
